Today economy is starting brides, planners and other professionals to come up with ingenious ways to cut back on spending and still provide the wow factor while still making the sale and leaving the wedding couple happy! The biggest hit is the fake cake!

While hiding in the kitchen is the real sheet cake you will never see, the fake cake is displayed to the guest who never know the difference and who won’t have the courage to test it for fear it’s real. Even if they do touch it they still may not know as the fake cake is decorated with real icing and decorations. Just no cake.

I personally think this is a very clever way to save money and still have the beautiful cake display. You are only limited by your imagination!

So how do you know when the cake is fake? One clue will be when the staff carts away the cake to the kitchen on pretense of cutting it. Not! The sheet cake in the kitchen is already cut and waiting to serve. They just wait 5 minutes for show. Pretty clever though, huh!

I’m going to let my secrets out of the bag for all you brides that are worried about potential skin problems on your wedding day or special occasion. First and foremost if you don’t have a regular routine of cleaning your face don’t bother starting the week before the nuptuils. You will be sorry! Your face will break out getting rid of the impurities. Start at least 3 months prior and don’t fret if you are closer than 3 months. Starting 6 weeks before can make a world of difference.

For sun damage or fine lines this is the best product. I use this on a weekly bases around my lips and mouth. Works wonders!containing .3% Retinol, is designed to minimize the appearance of aging due to sun damage: fine lines, brown spots and surface roughness. Regular use of AFIRM dramatically transforms your skin, providing a radiant glow. AFIRM should be used as part of a comprehensive skin care and sun avoidance program including the use of sunscreens. Available ONLY through dermatologists. Ideal for patients unable to tolerate Renova.

The next is dark circles. I often have what dermotologist call sinus eyes. I have slight discoloration from my tear ducks half way around my eyes from years of seasonal allergies. I could not get the picture for you so click here DERMAdoctor Eye Spy Dark Circle Disguise & Neutralizing Agent

Okay, just for the fun of it I on occasion use a lip enhancer in stead of a lip liner. With the new plump lip look you will want plump kissable lips when it comes time to “kiss the bride”. This one is the best and last a long time. A little costly but so worth it from Clinique.

When selecting colors for your impending wedding, you probably never stop to think about what different colors mean. What energies do the colors you see on a daily basis impart on those around you? How do the colors affect the overall feel or mood of your special day?

Black

Black is not always used in weddings, as many associate black with images of death and disaster. The truth is that black is a sexy and mysterious color that goes with any person’s skin coloring. This makes it an excellent choice for bridal wear.

Blue

Blue is a color used commonly for its calming influence. It can symbolize youth and spirituality. It is a perfect color choice for first weddings and weddings among a younger crowd. Avoid Dark Blue as it can almost be seen as black.

Brown

Though not a common choice for a wedding, brown is a perfect choice for fall weddings, especially when tied-in with orange. Brown gives off an energy of being organized and conventional. Use brown if you want to give off an air of warmth and honesty. Brown is better used to accent than using as the main color.

Gray

Gray is perhaps the least common choice for wedding attire. Considered sad and depressing, gray brings images of depressing weather. In fact, it can be a suitable color for older couples that are remarrying in their elderly years as gray evokes a sense of peace and calm.

Gold

Not commonly used, gold brings images of wealth and glamour. For a stunning wedding, try gold bridesmaids’ dresses with black groomsmen attire.

Green

Green gives off tones of growth, renewal, and strength. It is an excellent wedding color as it brings images of new life, especially when tied to images of spring flowers.

Orange

A blend of red and yellow, orange is another vibrant color that brings strong images to mind. Orange is the color of fire. It is bold and aggressive. Orange is growing in popularity, especially with fall weddings and flower/bouquet choice becomes larger.

Pink

If you want undertones of love and beauty, pink is a perfect choice. Pink brings images of devotion and tenderness to the overall picture. Often seen as the color symbolizing all things feminine, pink is an excellent choice for a wedding. While some may feel it is a weak color, not as vibrant or overpowering as red, it is actually a color that signifies the most important aspect of a relationship—love! Be warned, if you go pink…go all the way!

Purple

Purple is the color of royalty and mystery. Purple can be dark and spiritual or pale and romantic, such as with the lilac. Another common wedding color, purple suits many different skin tones and can be an excellent choice for your wedding attire.

Red

Red is a popular wedding color due to its ties with red roses. In fact, red is a color that symbolizes action, power, vitality, courage, self-assurance and most importantly for weddings, Romance. Red is an excellent choice for couples during a wedding because it imparts a sense of courage, boldness and eagerness for a new adventure in life.

White and Ivory

White is the virginal color that brings a feel of innocence, and cleanliness. It is considered the traditional color for all brides. White goes with anything, but it also has the negative affect of making skin tones look uneven. Use white sparingly when possible. Ivory is a better choice as it has that slight yellow-brownish tone that adds warmth and color to the face.

Yellow

Yellow is a bright color that evokes the feel of sunshine and happiness. Pale yellow bridesmaids’ dresses in the springtime works wonders as it brings images of new chicks and daffodils. With a feel of happiness and new life, yellow is a popular wedding color!

I though this topic very worthy as most brides have never been brides before and unless your hire a wedding planner to take care of these small details, they are easily over looked.

To achieve the photos you want for your wedding you need to plan your time-line to include your photographer.

HUH? You say! Well, if you want bridal portraits, bridal party portraits, groom & groomsmen and so forth time needs to be allowed.

Let’s start from the beginning. Let’s say the ceremony is at 4pm and your getting dressed at your mothers house. You need to arrive at the church by 3:30/3:45.

2:15 Photographer Arrives

2:30 Bridal Portraits, Brides Maids, Mom & Dad, flowers girls (everyone needs to be ready)

3:20 Photographer Leaves

3:35 Photographer arrives at ceremony location to takes photos of groom & groomsmen before ceremony.

4pm Ceremony

4:30 Ceremony is over and Wedding Party, Family and Bride & Groom formal portraits begin. *Note: An hour will usually be enough for an average bridal party of 8 with family members included. The last 10 minutes are usually reserved for e bride & groom only. An hour and a half may be needed if you want more candid photos with outdoors or different locations. It is during this critical time that most photos will be wanted for print and family members.

5:30 Leave for reception.

6pm Reception to begin. From here you photographer will follow events and take lots of candid photos. During the reception it is very hard to get any formal portraits as everyone is having a great time and more relaxed. Jackets come off, smokers are outside, lighting is dimmed and many other obstacles.

10pm Bride and Groom leave for honeymoon and so does photographer.

So over all you will need to add an additional 2.5 to 3 hours to your time-line to get the photos you will cherish the most and be proud to hang on you walls.

I sometimes find myself having to compete for space to take photographs for my clients. This is in part because family, friends & guest believe they have an obligation on behalf of the bride or groom to do so not realising they have hired a professional to document their special event.

To be fair, It really does not bother me over much. However, there are moments of taking pictures from guest that become simply disrespectful to the bride & groom unless you have been asked or paid to do so.

DO NOT TAKE PICTURES DURING THE WHOLE ENTIRE CEREMONY!

Why? Imagine when the newly married couple get their photos back from the hired photographer only to see the guest holding out phones and seeing camera’s instead of guest. The photo above would have been the perfect wedding picture of the father walking the bride down the isle with guest watching on except…..you got it!

I mean, can you imagine what the father and bride are seeing? Instead of smiling faces they are confronted with phones and camera’s. Truly, this is not an appropriate time to be snapping photos for yourself.

Brides, you can avoid this if you choose by simply stating at the bottom of your invitations………….. *NOTE: Please, no cameras or phones during ceremony. If you don’t get this message across some how, you will get the photo results above. There is nothing your photographer can do about it. Some can be cropped out others can not. It’s your choice.

I bet throwing the bouquet and garter has never crossed your mind about how it should be properly done and have lots of fun?

Here are some helpful hints to help you achieve lots of fun while doing it and the biggest “Don’t”!

Remember, the tossing of the bouquet and garter is a tradition dating back to the 1300’s and is a symbol of the next single person to marry therefor……NO CHILDREN SHOULD BE ALLOWED! This is not fair or fun to those potential singles vying for that garter or bouquet and takes all the fun out of it. Your DJ should be able to handle this very simply with an announcement that all single men/women over the age of 18 please report to the dance floor, or something similar to this.

Throwing of the Garter: To make it very fun for you, the single men and all your guest, call the single men to the floor BEFORE taking the garter from the brides leg. It’s so much fun having them watch and anticipate possibly getting that garter. Draw it out and have fun. Want to make it even more fun? Have your new father in law standing close and watching, this will really get your guest going just watching everything going on.

Bouquet Toss: Really, there is need for help here as the single ladies need no help having fun trying to catch the bouquet…however…and you knew it was coming, the bride should scout the area before the toss to check for low ceilings, hanging chandeliers and any other obstacles that the bouquet may land instead of the ladies.

The traditional toss is to throw the bouquet with your back to the single ladies. If you have a large enough group try something different. Have someone blindfold the bride with the bouquet in hand then call all single ladies over 18 to the floor and form a circle around her. The bride can only guess as to who is all there. Have the crowd shout out directions as to which single lady she should go to. The bride will finally make her selection by holding out the bouquet to the lady in front of her. What fun!

I want to Trash your Wedding Dress!

If you have the courage and want to partake in this fun new trend hitting what is becoming the new rage to do. I will make an extremly generous offer to the first bride who books with me to trash your dress! Here is how it works.

It’s exactly what it sounds like — following the blessed event, the bride straps on that gorgeous dress once again for a final farewell photo to the gown she spent a fortune to wear for one day only. Only instead of posing in some predictably idyllic setting, the pictures are shot in a fun setting where preserving the dress no longer matters.

These so-called Trash the Dress photos have become all the rage with brides who want to add something unconventional to their wedding albums. And unconventional they are —from swimming pools, public places, parks, streams, ponds, and anywhere a good setting can be! The main objective is to ‘trash the dress’ never to be worn again showing your commitment to your husband, family and public your commitment. The groom can also be featured in the photos too! Pretty cool, huh? So are your willing to ‘Trash The Dress’?

Today I was shopping for an additional memory card and over heard a conversation between a customer and a sales person. This customer wanted to print a picture from her wedding 50 years ago for an anniversary party.

The sales rep. was trying to explain the copyright laws and why they could not reproduce this image for her without a copyright release from the company or photographer.

Here is how it works….When someone takes your image they own the copyright to that image. Even though it may be your face, it is not your property. The property right belongs to the author/producer/photographer…ect…

Therefor, when you hire a company or photographer for your wedding or event the photos are not yours. The photos are owned by the photographer, hince…copyright

Copyright means no one can sell, copy, print or reproduce the image without consent from the original photographer or company or you could be sued along with the company who broke the copyright law on your behalf.

Most photographers will release the copyright for a fee if you desire to own your own photos. In most cases it just isn’t neccessary. Your photographer will provide any prints you may want along with a low resolution cd for sharing through your emails and online photo albums.

Low resolution means you can not get good quality prints from the cd. They are for viewing purposes only.

Anyway, I explained this to the customer and helped her find a solution. She was very nice and did not understand at all what the sales rep. was telling her. The photo was 50 years old and the company no longer existed. I simply told her how to get it printed without breaking copyright laws and asking someone to help her break that law. Hope this help you understand copyrighting and your photos.
